RPE & Mask Fitting
Employers are required to develop a respiratory protection program that applies with CSA standard Z94.4-02 SELECTION, USE and CARE OF RESPIRATORS. There are several components to a respiratory protection program including Health Surveillance (clause 11) and a fit test (clause 7).
Both of these services can be completed by ECS Safety Services.
The Health Surveillance survey is targeted towards determining any existing conditions or past experiences that may be contraindicated with the safe use of a respirator. The survey can be done while at ECS Safety Services or it can be done by the employee and sent to ECS for review, providing there is adequate contact information provided.
Just as important is determining if an individual is fit to wear a respirator, is determining that the mask fits properly and has an adequate seal.
ECS Safety Services can provide a qualitative fit test using Bitrex® solution or irritant smoke.
Quantitative testing involves the measurement of the respirator leakage by monitoring leakage inside the respirator face piece with an instrument. The employee can bring in their own mask or use one of the masks ECS has in the office.
